4 Ways to Show Extra Kindness this Halloween

There’s no doubt about it. Halloween is a popular holiday among kids (and adults!)

While it’s a wonderful time enjoy fun and treats, it’s also an opportunity to show kindness, patience and compassion towards children and families with special needs.

The beautiful thing is that it’s so easy to do!

Here are 4 ways to dole out some extra kindness this Halloween!

1. Provide allergy-safe candy or non-food treats

Many children with allergies are unable to safely eat candy that contain the top 9 allergens. Luckily there are a ton of allergy-free options out there that will make these children safe and happy. (Simply check the ingredients label on the package for allergens and cross-contamination warnings). Check out SAFE CANDY and NON-FOOD TREATS! (If you have non-food treats, put out a teal pumpkin to really make a child’s night!)

2. Show patience at the door

If any little ghosts or goblins pay you a visit, but they don’t greet or thank you at the door, keep in mind that they might struggle with their speech, experience anxiety or have sensory struggles. Some kids might grab what seems like too much candy, but that could be a result of impulsivity. The truth is, we don’t always know what children and families are going through, so a little patience goes a long way.

3. Keep the spooky vibe in check

Sometimes it’s tempting to make yourself look extra spooky or scary at the door, but it helps to be aware that younger children with active imaginations or kids with heightened sensory systems can become frightened.

4. Focus on the fall season at school

Since some children don’t celebrate Halloween, incorporate a fall theme at school! (I mean, what kid doesn’t love decorating pumpkins?)

Just when you think this fun holiday couldn’t get any better, you realize that it can with these acts of kindness. Please share this post and spread these simple ideas to make the month of October feel extra special for all children!
