Free Poster Advocating for Children with Special Needs on Halloween

The holidays are fun and exciting but, sometimes they’re complicated too. With Halloween around the corner, it’s important to reflect on ways we can support children and families dealing with communication challenges, sensory difficulties, physical limitations and food allergies.

I’ve found that taking the time to prepare children and rehearsing the typical trick-or-treating script ahead of time can be very helpful. In addition, I always serve candy that’s labeled “Top 8 Allergen Free” (e.g. Skittles and Smarties), offer toys and put out a teal pumpkin.

I wrote a poem and created a poster you can print and use to spread awareness about how we all can best support our students with communication impairments. I hope you find it helpful. Thank you for all you do for your students and families each and every day!
