AAC Advocacy Tips

We all know that everyone deserves a voice – all day and everyday. Today I’m sharing a free AAC Advocacy printable as well as 3 tips to reduce AAC abandonment. My goal is to arm you with solutions that will empower your team to take an active role in AAC implementation!

1: AAC ADVOCACY TIP – STAFF TRAINING

If possible, ask your administrator to arrange a meeting time with the staff that works with your student throughout the day. This will give you an opportunity to explain how the specific AAC tool works as well as to provide an overview of key points (e.g. modeling, consistent access, core vocabulary).

I created a staff AAC support survey and AAC support flip book for this very purpose! Check it out here if you think it might help!

2 –AAC ADVOCACY TIP – ASK THE TEAM

In addition to educating the staff, it’s important to also take time to listen to what they find challenging about AAC implementation. Are there technical challenges? Is behavior an issue?

I created an easy, no-prep, multiple-choice survey for staff to let me know exactly what they would find the most helpful! Take a look HERE.

3 – USE POWERFUL VISUALS – FREE PRINTABLE FOR YOU!

Years ago, I wrote a poem entitled, Please Don’t Leave My Voice on the Shelf (which led to a special video and ASHA article).

The first free printable I have for you are visuals to go with the poem that you can grab in my Subscriber Freebie Library HERE!

After you grab these FREE printable in my Subscriber Freebie Library HERE, I have one more free tool for you!

You can also download the poem itself, print it, and frame it in a 4X6 frame!

I hope these 3 tips and free printable help you as you advocate for your students and implement AAC with your team!
