Let’s face it. SLPs work hard! When you feel overwhelmed, pull out one of these affirmations to remember how meaningful and impactful your work is. Which one resonates with you the most?
1. I help students tell the most important stories in their lives.
Once upon a time, they felt too frustrated, embarrassed, disconnected, or self-conscious about their speech and language to tell their stories. Now the clock may be ticking, but just look at them go!
Maybe you’ll start your session 5 minutes late, but remember that you foster the best kind of storytelling. Right?
2. I’m building a relationship with my students that they will always remember.
As you work with students over time, you take them on a journey and build a special relationship along the way. Perhaps Mr. Rogers said it best!
Sometimes the “little” things we do for our little ones are not so little after all!
3. My help expands beyond speech and language.
When we think back to why we became SLPs in the first place, it wasn’t just to complete a speech goal with 80% accuracy, right?
Our dream was to help children communicate, so they can achieve their own dreams.
When we look beyond our goals and help the whole child, that’s where the magic happens.
4. Mistakes lead to growth.
Here’s a reminder from me to you that you’re a hero. You show up, provide a safe space and try your best. Through all of the challenges and moments that feel like failures (but really aren’t), you are growing.
5. I treat each individual child.
Everyone grows at their own pace in their own way. You have the unique ability to see that and sometimes that makes all the difference!
Enjoy this freebie from me to you as a constant reminder of how special you are.
