Who knew Cupid had a background in speech/language therapy?
In all seriousness, the fun process of matchmaking involves a lot of language skills…
Of course we can’t do real matchmaking in speech but…who said we can’t be CREATIVE?
Creative Cupid Valentine’s Lesson Ideas
Which children’s book/movie characters go well together?
Example:
- Cookie Monster and Mouse (from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie) – they both want cookies and find a way to get them!
- Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother and Aladdin’s Genie – they both make wishes come true!
- Alice in Wonderland and Curious George – they are both so curious and want to explore!
The list goes on!
Simply write the character names on a piece of paper (or, if you want to get fancy print out their pictures from Google Images) and leave them on the table.
Ask your students to:
- Describe the most relevant traits for each character.
- Compare and contrast characters
- Make inferences about what each character wants and why.
- Play cupid and match the characters together.
- List evidence for their choices.
- Plan a Valentine’s date based on their prior knowledge about the characters.
Fictional Facebook Profiles – (students LOVE it)!
Create silly, fictional characters and make mini Facebook profiles on a piece of paper!
Here’s a photo of some of mine.
As you can see, I got very creative with this! My students worked on:
- Inferencing
- Why Questions
- Comparing and Contrasting
- Oral Language
- Narrative Language
- Pragmatic Language
If you’re short on time and don’t feel like inventing your own, you can grab mine >> HERE! (No prep required)!
